Alton 4th of July Fireworks
are ALWAYS
on July 3rd.

That is the only tricky part to this. July 4th fireworks on July 3rd — in Alton. But, we in Alton are used to that. SMILE.

Wolfeboro has theirs on July 4th. So, that is easy enough.

Weather should not be an issue on either night. Enjoy.

Fireworks — ‘Wolfeboro’, NH, 2024 New Year’s Eve, 6pm, On Dec. 31.

As going to the ‘Wolfeboro’ fireworks, on New Year’s Eve & on July 4, is a well entrenched tradition that goes back 15-years (or a tad more), I, of course, went.

Weren’t many people. Though the thermometer said 29F, there was a slight breeze from the lake & it felt chilly. My gloveless right hand, on the camera shutter, was frozen.

The fireworks lasted 12 minutes.

As with ‘Revels‘ I maintain that all fireworks shows are always good, by definition. I like fireworks & hate to be uncharitable about them. But there are times when my limits are tested. SMILE. Let’s just say that this was ‘OK’. Good. Yes, let’s leave it at that.

Here are some representative pictures. Enjoy.

Happy New Year.

‘Wolfeboro’, NH, 2024 New Year’s Eve FIREWORKS Are At 6pm. [I Kid You Not.]

6pm is EARLY for New Year’s Eve fireworks — BUT, this is ‘Wolfeboro‘, the geriatric capital of New England. Once the grandkids go home after the Summer, Wolfeboro’s denizens like to go to bed early — even on New Year’s Eve. The sound of the fireworks keep them away. Hence the need to have them this early. C’est la vie.

There was a time when Wolfeboro did PROPER ‘First Night’. But, that was a long time ago. So, you just have to get used to it. SMILE.

To be fair, early fireworks (with EARLY ‘First Night’) is now becoming the norm in New Hampshire — even in rather cosmopolitan ‘Portsmouth‘.

It used to be around 9:30 in Portsmouth & ‘First Night’ went BEYOND midnight. I KNOW. c2018 we volunteered, & I had to do the MIDNIGHT address from the church. SMILE.

Happy New Year.

Wolfeboro, New Hampshire — July 4, 2023.

It was different.

It was minimalistic.

Very subdued. Mellow. Peaceful.

I kind of liked it. Gave you a chance to contemplate & take stock of life.

Thank YOU, Wolfeboro. Nice show.

Wow. I have always been a HUGE fan & consider myself lucky to have seen him perform TWICE — once in ‘Tempe’, Arizona c. 1981 & then 34 years later in ‘Wolfeboro‘, New Hampshire. The second time, I was fortunate enough to be a stagehand for the show! So, as you can see, I got to meet him. He was JUST WONDERFUL. Will never forget. Then, in his 70s, he had a very soft, gentle voice. Personification of a gentleman.

I never realized how HIGHLY he was thought of by his ‘peers’. This video gives you some idea.

Lots of videos about him on YouTube. Look around enjoy.

With ‘Gordon Lightfoot‘, at a ‘Great Waters’ concert, in July 2015.

Wolfeboro, every summer, without fail, has a lovely showing of flowers. They have already started. Yes, some of the small yellow ones, in storefront window boxes, were fake! That was kind of amusing. I guess they were trying to brighten things up ahead of the growing season. Enjoy.

Their Website with ONLINE shopping.

Yes, it is a high-end, immaculately laid-out retail store, BUT it is easy to forget that & just be MESMERIZED by all of the dazzling beauty that you are confronted with.

I go in there just to get (for free) a extra-high jolt of full-spectrum, no-holds-barred sensory overload.

You can go in there just for that too. But then IF you have any disposal income you will be tempted to spend it. They are CRAZILY AFFORDABLE! Wow. I, constantly, have to ask for the price to be repeated because it sounds an order of magnitude TOO LOW! {How often does that happen?} I think it is worth 10s of thousands & I get told $4,250! Wow. That is cheap. I hear “three … ” & I think $30,000 (& am happy to believe that it is worth all of that, if not more) when they CLARIFY $3,250! Wow. Wow.

You have to do yourself a HUGE favor & check them out.

If you are within 50 miles of Wolfeboro, the Oldest Summer Resort in the US, you owe it to yourself to go check out this gallery. Worse case check out their Website though that DOES NOT — does not — do the gallery justice.

Yes, I know Jennifer (& have even done some work for her). Furthermore, the full-time manager is a dear & valued friend. I do go to see her & then get totally distracted. She understands. They indulge me — & let me take whatever pictures I want. SMILE. Friends in high places.

But …

As many know I am NO STRANGER to art museums & art galleries around the world. As far as I am concerned this is how it stacks up in New Hampshire: ‘Currier Museum‘ (in Manchester), THE KALLED GALLERY, ‘Hood Museum of Art‘ (at ‘Dartmouth’, Hanover), ‘Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum‘ (Warner). That is it. Period.

WOW! The fireworks for UNEXPECTEDLY good. Exceeded wildest expectations. Start off slow, half-hearted & then … BOOM. A salvo that rocked the stone pier I was standing in. Never seen such a crescendo in Wolfeboro & I have been going to Wolfeboro fireworks — July 4th & New Year’s Eve — since the mid 1990s.

It was at 6pm. Yes, 6pm. That was EARLY. I was a bit put out. But, it worked. It was short too. Just over 10 minutes. By 6:12pm I was walking back to my car.

It was billed as taking place ‘at the docks‘. But, per the norm, it was at ‘Brewster‘. Luckily I had gone to Brewster. Worked out.

Glad I went. Made my day. Great fireworks.

They, viz. the ‘International String Trio‘, were amazingly brilliant at the ‘Great Waters‘ concert, in Wolfeboro, N.H., on Sunday.

This is NOT a conventional video of them performing. Instead it is a photo montage of 80 photos stitched together, with YouTube supplied soundtrack (to circumvent copyright), to create quick 2-minute video. Check it out. It gives you a real feel of what it was like to be in the audience. Enjoy.

‘Pickering House’, ‘Wolfeboro’, New Hampshire — The #4 Best Hotel In The World?

Click to ENLARGE. NO! Not the ‘Pickering House’. ‘The Inn on the Warf‘, Lubec, Maine — my room when I was there exactly a month ago.

What do YOU think?

The ‘Pickering House’ in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, the #4 BEST HOTEL in the WORLD!

Wow.

WOW?

I have never been in (as of yet). One word — COVID. [I did know the previous owner.]

There is just one thing that confuses & confounds I. Even if you are at hotel for your honeymoon (or even a ‘dirty weekend’ or a one night stand) you appreciate the setting of the hotel & the views from your window (especially if you can see them while lying in bed (or doing some other thing in bed). That is what gets me.

No question, at all, at all. The Pickering House has been lovingly & magnificently renovated. Bravo (& thanks). I have already taken quite a few pictures of the exterior. It is a work of architectural beauty. But, the LOCATION & VIEWS.

It is NOT even waterfront. And while Lake Winnipesaukee is LOVELY & I have owned 3 waterfront homes on that lake, I have bummed around the world enough to know that there are better views. [Yes, I have been to the Maldives (#3 above) twice — but, LUCKILY, well ahead of the tourist boom. When I went, there were NO hotels in the Maldives!]

That is it. I am not going to harp on. I love Wolfeboro. I will be going through it tomorrow. I am GLAD for the new owners of the Pickering House. They have spent a lot of money on it. Good for them. But, #4 in the World!
