This is SHOCKING! ‘DPReview‘ has for the last decade been my GOTO, trusted resource for data, information & reviews about cameras & lenses.
WOW.
They are CLAIMING that all the content will disappear as of April 10, 2023.
I find that hard to credit & believe. I can’t really see that happening.
Amazon would be STUPID to let all that PRICELESS data just disappear. That data is worth millions if NOT more. Amazon can sell that data or keep on making money off it.
I just don’t see the content disappearing. Somebody will step in & buy it. IF NOT it will get pirated!
I see that some of the key figures are already moving to other sites, like ‘PetaPixel‘. That is fair enough. They need to make a living.
I am amazed that Amazon didn’t try to sell the site & the content. That is irresponsible.
Where are we going to find this content?
But, this also highlights something that I have been thinking about, off & on, for the last few months. Cameras are dying. More & more people are just using their phones — including I. So, there isn’t as much draw & demand for a dedicated camera site. I can see that.
But, Amazon (& I am speaking here as a SHAREHOLDER) could have handled this better. WOW.
What a loss.
Just PRESERVE the content. That is imperative.
