All taken THIS MORNING in our yard. Amazing. I am sure we still had snow on the ground a month ago. Incredible how nature prevails, bursts forth. During the winter I remind myself what Spring will be like. And now, behold, I have spring & the flowers have sprung. ENJOY. It won’t be that long before we have snow again. That, alas, is New Hampshire.

This is just around the corner from where we live, about 1/4 of a mile. This is ‘Prospect Mountain Road‘. This is the road that I do most of my ambling. I walk on this stretch of road at least twice a day — often more. This patch is all wetlands (a bog) with a small pond in the middle. Hence all the peepers. Though the road itself is bone dry as you can see the wetland area is totally saturated with water from the snow melt.

I recorded this around 6:30pm on Saturday, April 15, 2023. Was taking the dogs for their quick evening stroll. They get a longer one around midnight. SMILE.

The peepers, as you can hear, were loud. Louder than normal. So, I thought I will record it so I can share it with you.

Enjoy. Spring in Central New Hampshire.

Newly Born Baby Sheep In ‘Alton’, New Hampshire –Today.

Sheep is NOT something one normally associates with New Hampshire — at least not in modern times. But, as you can see from the above post a small flock (under 40 methinks) came to be up the road in the fall of 2020. I was so excited. During that time I used to walk up this section of road (about 3 miles from home) quite often. I no longer walk that route. So, I don’t see the sheep as often. They move them, when there is no snow, between two properties about 1/2 mile apart. In winter, in the snow, they are kept penned in, in a fairly small area in front of an old, uninhabited building.

This morning when I was driving by I noticed one very small baby lamb. I couldn’t stop then but went back a couple of hours later. That is when I took the pictures. There was about 4 babies. Some still had their umbilical cords intact. So, they are freshly born. I am no expert, but I get a feeling that it is a tad early. It is still (v.) cold & we are still getting snow (like tonight (again)). I thought lambs were born in early Spring.

I hope these babies make it. I would be very distressed if they don’t. I will have to go back and check.
