‘Tolerance’ <> ‘Respect’ <> ‘Acceptance’ — Is That All It Takes To Make The World A Better Place?

Yesterday, a 79-year old friend of mine, an all-round nice guy, a genuine hippie of old, a thousand times (if not more) mellower than I, was telling me, repeatedly, that this is ALL it takes to make the world a better place.

Yes, of course, we were talking politics & the upcoming (crucial) election.

I definitely see what he is getting at, and see the merits.

I think, and I need to cogitate on this more, that there is some overlap between tolerance & acceptance.

I don’t really have a beef with this.

I am a million times more tolerant in my dotage than I was when younger. It would repeatedly get written in my job-related ‘performance reviews’ that I had trouble tolerating folks I thought were fools. That was true.

I wanted to document this & put it out for two reasons — one for posterity & the other to see what YOU think.
