Two Lights‘, South Portland.
‘Fort Williams’, South Portland — her favorite place in Maine.
‘Nubble’ — her first time.

What do you need me to say? {SMILE} She is the epitome of photogenic. She was a HIT wherever we went today. People just drool over her & she adores people.

She has been going to ‘Fort Williams‘ since she was a baby last year. This was her second visit this year. Probably her 4th or 5th in total. She loves it there.

It was her first visit to the other two.

This was yesterday afternoon. She, i.e., Rowen (our Newfie), was outside because Teischan was outside refurbishing an antique table. I had got Rowen a marrow bone. You can see it in the photos.

She now has three of these mini-trampolines. She likes to sleep on them. I got her the latest on Sunday. I drove 16 miles to pick it up. Two of them are in her pen.

This is the oldest of the three trampolines. It is sagging a bit. So, I brought out the pillows.

Rowen is NOT spoilt!

It is a myth that I spoil dogs & kids. I just take care of them. Others may spoil Rowen. Not sure about that.

A 110 Pound ‘Newfie’ Puppy, Our ‘Rowen’, In Her Supposed Element, i.e., Water.

Newfies, i.e., Newfoundlands, are supposed to be water dogs.

Rowen’, our 110 lbs (or thereabouts), 19-month old Newfie pup (from Iowa) though she loves water and likes to be wet, is NOT that much of a swimmer. We have had a load of Goldens & they loved to swim. You only had to show them water & they would go bounding along to swim. NOT SO Rowen.

She will, most times, just go in a bit & lap the water. She basically likes to PADDLE in water, i.e., walk around in shallow water. She can swim, but it is very much, in her case, take it or leave it.

She goes by a lake, our lake, nearly every day. She will go in & get her belly wet BUT that is about it.

But, there is this little pool on one of our walks. She loves that pool. She will swim in it. So, that is the above video.

There is a huge drainage culvert feeding that pool. She can walk through it, under the road. She loves doing that. When you see her disappear, that is where she has gone. She has gone into explore it. I was expecting her to come out of the other side. That is why you see the camera shift. But, she came back.

Once when we had had heavy raid & the pipe was gushing she got washed out of the pipe. It was like she had come out of a water slide. She went SAILING out of the pipe into the pool. Didn’t bother her much.

From two days ago — BEFORE her walk, waiting for me to get out of bed.

Rowen’, our 110 lbs (or thereabouts), 19-month old Newfoundland (‘Newfie’) pup from Iowa is a constant delight. Always up to something.

This was this morning during her 2-hour, 4-mile(+) walk. This is a fairly large grass area ahead of our beach. I had her on her leash as their were some folks around. Most of the time, in this area, she is off leash. She saw the butterfly & tugged. I let her go. She is on a choker, so I could, within reason, restrain her IF I had to. But, I let her go. Didn’t have time to remove the leash. She didn’t care.

She chases butterflies and falling leaves DAILY.

She also goes swimming. She is a JOY.

From two days ago — BEFORE her walk, waiting for me to get out of bed.

This is ‘Rowen’, our 110 lbs (or thereabouts), 19-month old Newfoundland (‘Newfie’) pup from Iowa.

She does this most mornings. No care in the world. Sleeps like that too. In the mornings, though, she is hoping that she will get a belly rub — & she gets her wishes most of the time. She is MY GIRL. She is a good girl. As tame as they come.

Snow does not faze her. She likes snow. The 12F to 19F (-11C to -7) temperature is WARM to her. She has layers of fur. She likes the cold. If we let her she will sit out, in snow storms, for hours! But, we don’t — not because of her, but because it bothers us.

She also likes her walks — actually her hikes. We live in the sticks, on a dirt road with dirt roads all around us. Don’t get much traffic even when it is not snowing. A day like today, we saw 2 vehicles in 2 hours! So she gets to roam around. She knows the roads. She comes when I call.

I did 11,000 steps (4-miles) in two hours. She, of course, did more. Probably 5 or 6 miles. When we got home she sat at the door. No desire to rush in!

‘Rowen’, Our 93 lbs ‘Newfie’ Celebrates Her 1st Birthday With Double Cheeseburgers From McDonald’s (Per The Custom).

Double cheeseburgers with NO mustard, ketchup, onions or salt. They like the green relish.

It is by now a very old, & dear, family tradition — that goes back at least 14 years, if not more. On their birthdays the dogs (not just the one whose birthday it is) gets, at a minimum, burgers from McDonald’s. I used to also get them ice cream cones — but Rowen’s birthday is in the winter.

Prior to this McDonald’s tradition it used to be a store bought, fairly large ice cream cake. That would get messy.

This was Rowen’s first birthday — though she did get to enjoy burgers at “Braxton’s” birthday in the Summer.

We also took her to PetCo to get her 1 lbs of FREE dog treats — for her birthday. So, she made out like a bandit.

I do NOT think I need to elaborate. The picture tells it all.

This is her beach. She has been there most days of her life since she was 10 weeks old. She takes it all in. She has a lot of gravitas. Very studious. Studies all in front of her. Just look at the picture.

Just in case you are wondering, that is ‘Halfmoon Lake‘ in Alton, N.H.

This is my 15-year old daughter’s doing — & it is HER dog. She is carving a HUGE pumpkin & Rowen is watching her with great interest, though she has now realized she does not like the taste of raw pumpkin.

When she first sent me these two pictures I thought, for a second, given how artistic she is, that she had carved these two lenses. Then I realized that they were a pair of glasses she has had for yonks. Rowen, by & large, lets her do anything to her. So … What can I say, but enjoy. SMILE.

‘Bambi’ Is Getting Too Curious & Brazen For Its Own Good!

by Anura Guruge
on July 15, 2021

Click to ENLARGE — 3 images below or the Slideshow.

Slideshow (below) has the whole sequence. Lasted about 5-minutes. This time it wasn’t even scared away by a passing car. It was quite happy to stay in the field & watch us. In the end, WE left!

This is the second major encounter within 4-days. The July 11, 2021, encounter was chronicled here.

I am pretty sure that it has to be the same Bambi as 4-days ago. Essentially the same spot, maybe 25-yards further up the road.

It was in the process of crossing the road, into the Blueberry Farm, when we BOTH spotted each other. She darted across to the field, stopped & proceeded to just watch us.

We walked up closer & closer, slowly & without making much noise. We were so ‘good’ that we didn’t even disturb a chipmunk sitting on a stone eating a nut.

Bambi sure was not scared by us. It was awfully curious — especially of the Newfie pup, ‘Rowen’. Kept of watching Rowen rather than I. Rowen, on the other hand, paid no attention — just as she had 4-days earlier. Not sure she sees that well. But, she spots deer IF they are moving.

As you can see from the pictures she hung around. She did run off once, but that was just to circle around! In the end, we decided to leave her in peace & continue with our walk. It was getting hot.

Not happy that you can see her ribs. There is plenty of grass & vegetation. We have had a ton of rain. So, not sure what that is about.

I am kind of concerned that she is becoming too ‘tame’ for her own good. This is HUNTING country.

P.S., No animals were hurt in the making of this post.
