‘U-Haul’, ‘Concord’ (NH), Did An Admirable Job Obtaining & Installing A 1/2″ Hitch On My 2022 ‘Mazda CX-30’.

This is what I wanted the hitch for.

Yes, it took U-Haul close to 3-months to get this hitch but it was not all their fault. Their suppliers kept on letting us down. I ordered the hitch in mid-September 2022 & they, i.e., U-Haul in Concord, NH, only got it in mid-December 2022. During that time I got to know many of the folks at that U-Haul location. THEY WERE OUTSTANDING. A great bunch of human beings; helpful, courteous & professional. I will never go anywhere else for another hitch OR anything else I can get from U-Haul.

I was very impressed & pleased.

They did a nice job & the pricing was outstanding. Yes, they gave me quite the discount to compensate for the delay. [I bought a few accessories from them to makeup for that.]

I needed a hitch for my new Mazda CX-30 so that I can attach a small cargo carrier platform. Well I finally have a hitch & I used the platform that very day. It all worked great. I am very happy.

‘Rowen’, Our ‘Newfie’, Checking Out Her New Car — & Seems To Approve.

While it (i.e., the Mazda CX-30 I leased last month) will be our back-up car, its main purpose is to be Rowen’s transport. Yes, for the last 7 or 8 years we have had a car for the dogs. Not as crazy or extravagant as it might initially sound. Given our beach access we tend to have very WET DOGS during much of the year — & even in the winter they can manage to get soaked in snow. Transporting wet dogs is messy. Hence, having a car that we are willing to get — & more importantly, stay — dirty.

Yes, this is a brand new car. Hence the three layers of covers in the back (& no, you can’t see the seat cover that is on the folded back seat).

This car is going to be set up like this all the time — or that is the goal. Back seat folded, grill up & multiple protective cars at the back. Rowen appeared to like it. It is the SMALLEST of the cars she is used to. She takes up the entire back space. When I look in the rearview mirror I only see dog. Good job I can use the side mirrors & in a pinch the rearview camera.

It took me over a month to get around to getting all of the back set-up per what I wanted. Finally got it done this afternoon. Now the Mazda CX-30 is Rowen-ready & Rowen-proof.

Getting A Hitch Installed By ‘U-Haul’ Was NOT A Hitchless Experience. Disappointed.

I need a hitch for my new Mazda CX-30 so that I can attach a small cargo carrier platform. The dealership, ‘Seacoast Mazda‘, was not in the least helpful. Basically blew me away. Said they couldn’t be bothered! So, I had to look at other alternatives.

I, as is inevitable, kind of knew that ‘U-Haul‘ did hitch installations. A quick Google confirmed this. So, I went to them online.

On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, the day after I got the CX-30, I placed at online order with them for a 2″ hitch. That part was easy enough & their prices were GOOD. I was impressed. I had asked for a Friday (Sept. 23) installation, but noticed that the EARLIEST that they would give me was Wednesday, September 28, 2022. I worked out, eventually, that they needed that lead time to get the hitch to Concord, NH for installation, i.e., it was not in stock & had to be ordered.

I was given a 2pm installation appointment for Sept. 28. I was all set. At 10am I get a call from them saying that they DON’T have the hitch! Ah! They also had NO TRACKING (i.e., FedEx) data. Basically the hitch had not shipped as yet, i.e., FedEx had NOT picked it up as yet. So, there was NO delivery time! Not good.

I had to go to Concord anyway. I had arranged to pick up a new microwave from ‘Best Buy’. So, I stopped by U-Haul. Neat operation & the ‘young kid’ was as helpful as he could be. But, he agreed that he had NO idea when the hitch would ship — let alone get delivered. So, I cancelled the whole order & SUPPOSEDLY got a refund on my credit card (which I have yet to see). Bottom line: I still don’t have a hitch.

Did a little more digging when I got home. I now see that U-Haul is claiming that the hitch I need will not be in stock till October 10, 2022! Why didn’t they tell me that earlier. Not good. Not happy.

Just Leased A ‘Mazda CX-30 Premium’ From ‘Seacoast Mazda’, Portsmouth (N.H.) — Happy & Impressed For Now.

Mazda CX-30 Premium with ‘Jay Meyer’ the salesman.

Alas & alack, this was NOT to replace my accursed 2022 ‘Volvo XC60 B5 AWD (Polestar)’. I am still stuck with that though I will, soon, make another attempt to divest myself of that car that I hate so much.

No, this 2022 Mazda CX-30 Premium is to replace my beloved 2002 Jaguar XJ8 that I reluctantly got rid of last month & the 2012 Ford Taurus that I will be taking to a junkyard by month end. So, yes, it is to replace 2 cars. Basically my spare car though its main purpose will be to be my ‘dog car‘ & ‘trips to the dump car‘. I, however, will NOT be putting any trash for the dump in this new car. I got a hitch mounted carrier so I can keep the trash away from the car. Just need ‘U-Haul’ to install a hitch mount.

All things considered this CX-30 wasn’t a bad deal. They, i.e., Seacoast Mazda, did NOT cut me any slack. But, I didn’t have the time or patience to argue or shop around. The car was within my budget, it was available & it was an acceptable color. I only talked to a couple of other dealers and Seacoast Mazda was the most civil! They are NOT a bad bunch — though they have the MOST ATROCIOUS phone system ever! Talk about BAD. They don’t even have voice-mail. That is my only real gripe about them. As some of you know I hate using the phone to begin with because it is such a waste of my time. And then I have to deal with this 1950s phone system with people yelling across the trailer. I was NOT amused; not impressed. They keep on saying that they will get a new phone system & a receptionist BUT that is but promises. OK. But, that was really the only negative.

AFTER I bought the car & was sitting on it, WE discovered that the car, THOUGH A PREMIUM, had no Sirius XM. Jesus wept. Well, NOT really the deal breaker since I will not be using this car for my long trips. But, talk about clowns. When I got the Volvo having Sirius XM was a MUST. That is all I listen to. But, I do not plan to spend much time in this CX-30. So, I think I can manage.

I am mildly impressed with the CX-30. It is cute in someways. It has some pep, but every once in awhile I miss the power I get with my Polestar boost in the XC60. Kind of like the paddle shifters BUT never realized what a pain they can be when you are taking corners — which is when you need to shift down/up. Hhhmmmm.

Small fuel tank. Max range around 240 miles! That won’t even get me to Acadia! Also I need to keep an eye on the miles-per-gallon. Even with my NOTORIUS heavy foot I can get around 30 mpg on the Volvo. Right now I appear to be getting around 18 mpg on the CX 30! Wow.

But, unlike my Volvo I don’t hate it — as yet. SMILE. That can change.
