At best, if that, I was only vaguely aware of this, i.e., that there was a time when Native Indians did not have U.S. citizenship. I did NOT know about this act passed in 1924. Very neat. I was glad & excited to learn about.

It came to my attention, this morning, thanks to an Ad. on Facebook by the U.S. Mint. Wow. I had to look it up. Made my day.

I am tempted to buy a roll of coins. If I had seen this, well ahead of my trip to the Mi’kmaq Mawiomi I would definitely have got a roll. It would have been NEAT to give some — especially to kids.

Not sure whether I will be meeting any Natives in the next few months. No plans.

But, I will keep this in mind. Neat. Very neat. I am chuffed.

Yes, I got to take part in the GRAND ENTRY — on day 1. Wow. Who would have thought.

This was spur of the moment. I had not, for an instance, thought I would be in the Grand Entry — not being part of the Tribe, let alone a native.

I had got myself a prime chair, front row, in the main viewing tent, in the shade. I was all set to sit there & take pictures.

Then a series of announcements came over the PA that they were 4 flag bearers SHORT. I was kind of surprised. I had never seen this has having been an issue in any of the many pow wows I had attended.

They kept on calling for volunteers …

They got one. They still needed three. It was getting close to noon — the scheduled opening time. So, I decided to see IF they wanted me.

Not only were they happy to have me, they gave me a TRIBAL FLAG to carry. I declined. That would NOT have been right.

I agreed to carry the ‘Every Child Matters’ flag. I was entitled to carry that, & I could relate.

It was quite the HONOR. WOW.

At 4pm, that afternoon, I had to go back to carry the flag off. WOW.

Going to the Mi’kmaq Mawiomi (pow wow) in Presque Isle, Maine, this weekend got me thinking. They said it was their 30th Mawiomi. So was that the oldest or where did it fit in.

I asked a few natives. The best they could offer was ‘you ask some good questions.

So, I started my own research. I was surprised that Passamaquoddy days had been around for 58 years. That is the OLDEST I have found so far. I am still looking.

So this is where we are. Help if you can. Much appreciated.
