OK, it is not ‘our’ Loon per se. It is a Loon nesting & raising her new baby on ‘our’ lake — making use of the nesting raft we provide each year. I am NOT going to mention the name of the lake since I am very committed to making sure that the nest is not disturbed.

Yes, I am very protective about our loons. We go back a long time. In the fall when I am the only one visiting the beach they come close and watch me. I am swum with them.

Having nesting loons is NOT new for us. We have, over the years, have had many. ALAS MANY did not make it to ‘full term’. That distresses I NO END. This nest is in a better place than when they decide to nest, on their own, in the stream leading to the lake.

That is all I am going to say. SMILE.

When they are BOTH swimming I hope I am lucky enough to capture a picture or two.

I did NOT ask for this selfie. Honest. SHE DID! I, as many of you know, am TOO SHY to be that forward or presumptuous.

The American Rogues‘ was MY NEW band at this year’s ‘Loon’ ‘NH Highland Games‘. First time I had the honor/pleasure to see them. They sure have PRESENCE & the beat. More on them later. Promise.

She saw me taking pictures. I saw her outside, at their tent, & showed her some pictures I had taken. She wanted me to delete those in which she looked ‘serious’. I, of course, did.

Then she said take a SELFIE. I did.

A railway switch was eyed as a possibility right at the start
following this deadly Amtrak derailment in Montana.

Last week, when I went looking for some good pictures of railway switches to illustrate the concern folks were having with the recent deadly Amtrak derailment in Montana, I was frustrated.

A few days later I happened to be around three railway lines, all with switches — phone/camera in hand. So I took the opportunity to take some pictures.

Elegant engineering. Very clever. Does its job well & simply too. Very clever.

I also happen to come across a DE-RAILER. Yes, the names says it all. It is a device to derail a train — i.e., stop it in its tracks. This is to prevent it going where it should not be going.
