I needed to know the elector demographics BY COUNTRY. I decided to extract it from my MAGIC Excel spreadsheet rather than trying to get it from a Website. That way I can be sure it was right. Learned about the Excel =UNIQUE function. Made getting the data a piece of cake. Amazing how powerful Excel has become. I am GLAD.
Given we have another elector (viz. Maestrojuán) aging out on Feb. 24, 2024, I updated this as of the next day, i.e., February 25, 2024.
I now also have some new ‘Francis’ columns since I want to see how many votes his camp could get. So, check that out.
With what WAS the invaluable ‘Salvador Miranda’ ‘Cardinals Website’ now MAJORLY out-of-date, I had to do something in order to stay abreast with where we stood with the Cardinal Electors. [Salvador LAST UPDATED his website (ALAS) on May 8, 2023.] I also noticed that the usually very reliable ‘Catholic Hierarchy’ Website has NOT updated its ‘cardinal elector’ page as Jan. 30, 2024. We had one elector age-out yesterday. This is NOT reflected — right now.

This is NOT sophisticated or fancy. It is very SIMPLE & BASIC.
PLEASE check my math on the Excel. It is very, very basic. I had looked around for a spreadsheet like this. SIMPLE. Not complicated. Check the formulas. Make sure I haven’t screwed up.
I haven’t done my taxes as yet. So, I have NOT used this 2023 version of the Excel. But, I used it last year, & it was fine. Many folks have used this last year & in 2024. OK?
My recommendation on how to use this. 1/ First do a paper one by hand using a pencil & calculator. 2/ THEN check your math using this Excel.
Then you should be all set. Got that. Double check. Double check. Triple check.
Yes, I looked at ‘Excel1040‘. It was OVERKILL for my needs. I just needed to check my math.
So, IF you have a similar need, give this a spin. It is SAFE. No macros. Just the simplest of formulas. But, check my math. SMILE.

I have had this Excel for over a decade — but I have NOT been diligent about keeping it updated. I could always rely on (my dear friend) Salvador to provide me with the data.
NOT SO, now.
So, over the last few days I updated the Excel. It appears to add up. I have numerous checks to make sure that it all adds up. BUT, PLEASE CHECK.
NOW the ONLY RELIABLE website for BASIC cardinal demographics is ‘Catholic Hierarchy‘. It tends to be very up-to-date, but the data is LIMITED. Please do NOT trust any other sites — at least at present. Got that.
The observant among you will have noticed that I have an OFFSET feature. That means I can ADVANCE the date — 30-days, 45-days … whatever FORWARD. That way I can see what the demographics look like going forward. SMILE. The joys of having TWO degrees in Computer Technology!
Since folks, even as I type, are still using the 2022 one — I kept that in place & also added the 2023 to that as well. So, folks will be able to find both. OK?

I do my taxes by hand. SMILE. Have done so for years. I was well trained by an AMAZING tax accountant over a decade. He did all of his returns, & he had HUNDREDS of clients, by hand! He showed me how to do it by hand. To be honest I kind of enjoy doing it by hand. Sure beats all the DUMB & inane questions you have to answer with the likes of ‘TurboTax’ & ‘H&R Block’. If you know your way around the 1040 it is easy enough to just go in & fill the forms directly.
The only problem is that you have to do the worksheets. Again, that doesn’t bother me overly. SMILE. I do know my way around a calculator too.
This year I DASHED off this quick Excel to CHECK MY MATH on the ‘Qualified Dividends And Capital Gain Tax Worksheet‘. But, PLEASE check my math on the Excel. It is very, very basic. I had looked around for a spreadsheet like this. SIMPLE. Not complicated. Check the formulas. Make sure I haven’t screwed up.

There will be a sede vacante (vacant see) & a conclave at some point. That is a given.
We cannot now have a conclave this year. Not enough days left. But, a sede vacante can happen at any time, sometimes with NO WARNING. But, I doubt that we will have one this year.
It could happen it 2024, but the again it might not.
But, I need to start getting my ducks in order. So, I created this Excel spreadsheet. The top part is populated & accurate as of now. But, that will change over time. Hence, why I blurred it out to avoid any confusion.
I need to work on the bottom part. I have the data. Just need to plug it in.

I am surprised, humbled BUT delighted. Wow. Glad it is of some use to some. Yes, if you check the COMMENTS you will see that a couple contacted me to tell me that they found it useful. That is always so gratifying.
I posted it because I had it & I like to share this stuff. I never thought so many people will check it out.
Always amazed me that there are SIMPLE IRS 1040 tax worksheets on the Web. Well, I am doing my part — & we now have two, one for ‘Capital Gains‘ & the some for ‘Social Security Benefits‘. Yes, of course, there are some very FANCY ones out there — but there are those, like I, who just want a quick & easy. Just in & out. Just enter the bare essential data. Doesn’t want to know your inside leg measurements. No messing about.

The Excel worksheet I posted last year has proved to be unexpectedly popular — & I have even had a few people thanking me for it.
So, I updated it for Tax Year 2022 (i.e., for those filing in 2023). Got that. 2022 Tax Year — & what has changed are the Status-based allowances in lines 6 & 13, e.g., $83,350 if married filing jointly.
