We have a subscription to the ‘DownEast’ though it is UNLIKELY that I will renew it after this. I was so excited when I saw that my beloved ‘Bold Coast‘ was the feature for the July 2024 edition.

I was first shocked. Then disappointed and finally a bit miffed especially at the short shrift that ‘Lubec‘ got. Lubec should have had MORE coverage.

So, let me kind of summarize what is unsatisfactory as to their coverage.

>> They start in ‘Ellsworth‘ — rather than even at ‘Millbridge’ where the ‘Bold Coast Scenic Byway‘ starts.

>> There is NO mention of any of the 4 ‘Maine Coast Heritage Trust‘ [MCHT] preserves — though the cover picture is from the ‘Chimney Trail‘ at ‘Moose Cove’.

>> It claims that you need a MINIMUM of half-day to hike ‘Cutler Coast‘! Poppycock. You can do a nice walk to the ocean and back in 2 hours.

>> Though it mentions ‘Cobscook Shores‘ by name, it does NOT mention any of wonderful reserves.

>> It is the treatment given to ‘Lubec’ that chagrins me the most. The only things that get mentioned are ‘McCurdy’, ‘Quoddy‘ & the ‘Peacock B&B’! That is it. NO motels, no eateries or shops.

NO ‘Lubec Brewing’, The ‘Wharf‘, ‘Eastland‘, ‘Dockside‘ or ‘Water Street Tavern and Inn’. How is that possible? Very disappointing. The good folks of Lubec should be up in arms.
