Acadia‘, even with this price hike, is still well worth it. As I stress in all of my ‘Bold Coast‘ books, the ‘Acadia Experience‘ is unique & should not be overlooked. While, I am, obviously & of course, very fond of my ‘Bold Coast‘, I fully appreciate that Acadia is a more varied, richer & rewarding experience. I point out that IDEALLY one should do both, i.e., Acadia & Bold Coast. The keyword here being — ‘ideally‘. But, fund, time or both could get in the way.

Acadia is expensive. Earlier this month I, as is my wont, visited both. 3 nights at the Bold Coast cost me about as much as ONE NIGHT in Bar Harbor! And that is the rub.

Yes, there will be Bold Coast residents who will oppose the inevitable uptick in visitors. But, that is going to be inevitable.

I am glad. SMILE. More interest in my books. SMILE.

‘College Of The Atlantic’, ‘Bar Harbor’, Maine — What An Enchanting Campus.

Given that I stay at either the ‘Atlantic Oceanside‘ or the ‘Wonder View‘ on my fairly regular visits to ‘Bar Harbor‘, I am always kind of within spitting distance from the ‘College of the Atlantic‘. On my nightly ambles I am always walking past it. I always wanted to go check it out.

I finally got the chance on my last visit. I spent a glorious hour ambling around what is an absolutely delightful & enchanting campus. The views are not great, but they are still of iconic ‘Frenchman Bay’ & ‘Bar Island’. It would be churlish to complain. One could argue that ‘Salve Regina University‘, in ‘Newport’, RI, might have similar views, BUT I am happy to just say that they both enjoy superlative views.

I wish one of my kids had gone to it. My last has no intention of going to college. So, my chances of visiting any of my kids at this campus is NIL. Alas.

I am happy for the kids who are fortunate enough to go there. Well done. Bravo. Enjoy.

The Moose Atop “Geddy’s” In ‘Bar Harbor’, Acadia, Being Taken Down For Refurbishing.

Monday afternoon of last week I was hoping to take a picture of this ICONIC moose against what was a light blue sky. But, it wasn’t there! So, I assumed that they must take it down for winter — which would make sense. It would appear that it had fallen off — BUT I had not looked for that. Instead, I just took a picture of the “Testa’s” lobster (below).

Wednesday afternoon I was driving through town when I saw this tall, yellow cherry picker outside of Geddy’s. As you can see from the pictures (above) there were two men in the bucket & the moose was dangling from canvas straps attached to the bucket. I thought they were hauling it up to remount it on the roof. WRONG. They were lowering it. So, I guess it must have fallen off its perch & rolled down the roof. Shame I had NOT looked up on Monday. Good lesson. Always check. It appeared that at least one of the antlers needed work. Did not look too badly damaged.

I parked & ambled to watch the action from ACROSS the road. I did not want to get in their way. They had no trouble lowering the moose down into a waiting trailer. Their problems arose when they could NOT lower the boom of the cherry picker down. So, the bucket, with the two men is still in the air, the moose is on the trailer & they can’t lower the bucket. I think this was their first outing on this cherry picker. The third person on the ground was trying to help & making all sorts of adjustments. It was quite funny. I could tell that they knew I was there taking pictures. So, I kind of felt bad for them & started walking away. They eventually got it straightened out.

Shocked To Learn That ‘The Cranberry General Store’ On The ‘Great’ Island Has Been Totally Destroyed By Fire — Today!

I LOVE the ‘Cranberry Islands‘ — off ‘Acadia‘ (& ‘Bar Harbor‘).

I would spend a LOT more time there IF not for the fact that you can only get to them by boat. Given that I (no longer) have a boat getting there gets ‘involved’.

I, of course, know & loved that STORE.

Right off the pier when you got off the Ferry. Also the BEST place to wait for the ferry. The last time we were there, 2019, we had lunch on the deck, waiting for the ferry.

This is devastating for the Island residents — though they, I have come to learn, are a hardy, resilient bunch. They will make do while they rebuild the store.

Maybe I should go spend some time on the Island in Spring. A thought. A good thought.
