I called Dexcom support (which is responsive & TRIES HARD TO HELP) yesterday to report THIS problem PLUS two (2) others.
They CONFIRMED that the G7 ‘Android’ APP is only supported UP TO Android 13.
APP works on Android 14 as long as you don’t want to go back and check you values.
As soon as you touch the expanded graph, in horizontal view, as you are supposed to do — the APP crashes. So, now with Android 14 you can get the individual readings off the APP.
I am NOT diabetic AS YET — but I just crept into the prediabetes range.
That was the whole point of getting the ‘Dexcom G7‘ CGM with a permanent patch that monitors glucose level 24×7 at 5-minute intervals.
I have known all my life that I am prone to become diabetic. We has a race are predisposed to it. I have spent a better part of life trying to DELAY IT.
It is NOT if, but when — so, I just want to TRY and keep on pushing that when down the road.
Hence, all my walking and low-carb diet. But, my A1c keeps creeping up, year after year. It finally crossed over to the prediabetes range.
I am just glad that I managed to DELAY that till I was past 70.
Now, the goal is to stay PREDIABETIC as long as possible.
I have NO DESIRE, whatsoever, for longevity. So, IF I can push it down the road a few more years, I will be content.
I had seen the Dexcom products years ago.
I wanted a CGM to BEGIN WITH. I want to UNDERSTAND what is happening within my body.
My insurance wouldn’t pay for it BECAUSE I am not diabetic. Plus, NONE cover the NEW & quite expensive G7.
I bought 3 patches/sensors. Each works for 10-days. So, I have 30-day coverage. Not sure I will go beyond that. It is expensive & the APP isn’t that great. I might just go with pin prick readers –> with better APPS. But, that is down the road.
I have learnt a lot already.
I will keep you posted.
Interesting stuff ….
A year ago I went BACK to using mouthwash — (at least) TWICE a day.
My A1c has GONE UP!
Yes, there are OTHER FACTORS TOO. I am fully aware of that. But, as with other changes, I ditched the mouthwash.

This outage was BAD. Very bad. It was SCARY. SCARY. SCARY. I was NOT amused, especially when I couldn’t get any assurance from them as to whether all my money was SAFE.
UNACCEPTABLE!
What is even worse, & totally bloody inexcusable was HOW Fidelity REFUSED to acknowledge the outage.
The APP & Website were still working — though all the account data was gone.
They could have easily put a banner message to tell us what was happening.
They should have put out a TWEET.
But, NOTHING. Total silence. Total denial.
Yes, I am sure, 500%, that we have NO recourse. I know that somewhere along the line I must have signed something that said that Fidelity cannot be held responsible, whatsoever, whatsoever, for system outages.
I wanted to do 3 option trades. Not imperative & none were expiring today. Just wanted to exploit today’s prices. I lost that opportunity. I probably lost $500 because of that. THAT IS BIG for I. HUGE. A LOT OF MONEY. I am not a rich man. But, I am sure there are those that lost MILLIONS, possibly multi-millions. NO RECOURSE. We are just screwed. Not even an apology.
I didn’t experience the earlier one (possibly because I was out ambling) but I am learning that this was the 2nd in 15 days. NOT GOOD. NOT ACCEPTABLE.
Click to ENLARGE. An e-mail I got AFTER I switched.
I only used the WordPress APP on my phone to check Stats. I do all of my WordPress blog postings, updates & maintenance from my desktop PC. So, I don’t really use the WP APP that much.
For the last few days, everytime I opened the WP APP, I would get a pop-up from ‘Jetpack’ telling me to install the Jetpack APP. I had no idea that this was not a recommendation — BUT a COMMAND. I had ignored the request because the WP APP was working & gave me the Stats I sought.
But then tonight the Stats stopped working on the WP APP!
Having dealt with WP for over 20-years I kind of had a hunch. They have disabled Stats to force me to install Jetpack. I WAS, alas, RIGHT!
The above e-mail confirms that.
I installed the Jetpack APP & BINGO I had my Stats again. Even without being told I uninstalled the WP APP.
So, that is the story.
IF you use the WP APP look into this. The Jetpack APP is supposed to work whether you have Jetpack on your Website/blog or NOT.
Went to Logon, as I always do around 6:30pm, to see how much money I have lost on the day.
Logon screen was in a loop.
Kept on telling me to Login again.
Panic.
Logged in, using biometrics, on my phone. Phew! At least all my accounts were still there & they were not totally down to zero. I still had a few dollars in each. That was a relief. I wasn’t totally destitute as yet. (Maybe tomorrow.)
Called Fidelity. BUSY. The automated voice system said they would call me back. They did — in about 10 minutes.
As ever they were SUPERBLY polite & helpful.
Assured me that they thought it was a problem on their end. My accounts were fine. Nothing to worry about. That was comforting.
I kept on trying. While talking to him I managed to Login. WOW. What a relief. I am sure I lost 5 years of my life from that little excitement. So I am now, OFFICIALLY, living on borrowed time.
Not funny. I need to know, multiple times a day, how poor I am. It keeps me grounded.
So, just a heads up. If you are having problems login in, it might be THEM, rather than YOU.
If you Google this you will find a LOT of good, valid suggestions — many of which might actually work. But, you are likely to find that it is going to be a trial & error — i.e., try this, then that, & maybe this — process.
I found, over the weekend, that the quickest & easiest solution was to UNINSTALL the APP & then get a fresh copy. Yes, you will have to download the books you had previously downloaded. That is not a bad thing either. That is the 1st step that most other potential fixes recommends. This way, rather than screwing around, just start again.
I found that it was really quite easy. Took minutes. Just a suggestion. You do not have to resort to this, if you don’t like the sound of it. SMILE. No problem. I am all set, thank you.
Much cheaper alternatives at Amazon. ALL they lack is ‘integration’ with ‘Garmin Connect’.
Some of them do provide an APP. So, yes, you can store or SHARE (e.g., e-mail) that data electronically.

Click to ENLARGE. The 22 smartwatches I have owned & worn since June 2017. Note most have been Garmins & mainly Fenix models
This is very much a damp squib on the part of Garmin. While others are adding blood pressure monitoring & EKG functions to their smartwatches, Garmin has the audacity to announce this. I am not impressed & am glad that I am no longer a Garmin shareholder (having been one for many, many years).
It is hard to justify when its ONLY redeeming factor is that it will send your bp data directly to the Garmin Connect APP so that you can keep track of it along with your other fitness-related data. Yes, that has appeal BUT not at this rip-off price. Bar the camera APP, Garmin Connect is easily the most used APP on my phone. But, I would feel exploited if I spent $150 to get this.
While I fully understand that others might have different needs, I don’t have any pressing reason to have my BP data on Garmin Connect. OK, confession time. I no longer measure my BP on a regular basis (though there were times in the past when I did so). Yes, for now, I also don’t need to keep a record of my BP — THOUGH my excellent $30 wrist-cuff BP monitor does have a built-in memory function. IF push comes to shove, I will admit that I would feel most at ease IF I just recorded my BP on a notebook.
Well, enough said. You get my point. $150 is just a crazy, outlandish, EXPLOITATIVE price for this. Garmin is NOT ‘playing the white man’!
Click to ENLARGE. Screenshots from my new Google Pixel 6 Pro.
This happened to me TWICE with my first Pixel 6 Pro in January of this year, & then a few days ago when I got another because I broke the screen on the other.
In the first instance I was transferring everything from my 2021 Pixel 5 to the Pixel 6 Pro.
The second time I was transferring everything from my broken (but still working) Pixel 6 Pro to the new one.
Each time, while the APPs, settings & data was being transferred — & the new phone being setup — the Google Fi APP was going CRAZY.
Starting up automatically & then aborting.
Tons of messages from Android saying that the Google Fi APP was not responding.
Scary, but I have learnt that no harm is being done.
Just ignore the APP. Yes, it is distracting BUT ignore it.
When everything has been setup, and all the other APPs have been updated, Fi will settle down.
You will then discover that can’t open it!
It will crash, each time you open it.
Don’t panic.
Restart the phone.
Check for any Android updates. Do all the updates since there may be more than one.
Once all the updates are done, go to SETTINGS –> APPs find ‘Fi’ … scroll down to STORAGE (see above). Clear data & cache. It is OK.
Just to be on the safe side restart the phone.
Start the APP. Sign onto Fi. You should be all set.

Two days ago we had a very cold snap up here in New Hampshire.
A distant neighbor, an ex-professional ‘jock’, who had purchased a ‘Range Rover’ a few months back, posted a picture from his Range Rover APP saying the temp was -17.
I questioned that. I had been checking the temp. all day because I wanted to go out and get at least 10K steps in so as not to break my 600-day PLUS streak. I try NOT to stay out for too long when it is below -5F because I have been told that this could harm my ancient (& much abused) lungs. I did go out & get my 10K steps in. Temp. never really got to 5F — more like 3F. But, I kept my time outside to 30 minutes or less.
So, I was very confused as to where he was getting his -17 from.
Then when I was doing my post, I converted 0F to Centigrade. BINGO. BINGO.
-17C = 0F.
I immediately realized what had happened.
I went and looked at the picture he had posted. BINGO. No ‘C’ or ‘F’. Just ‘-17’.
He had NOT set his temp. units correctly.
He can’t help it. He will be the first to admit, that he is an out and out jock.
As you can see from the above, the U.S., really, is the only country of significance that still uses ‘F’ for temperature. So, you can understand why the likes of Range Rover do NOT bother with the ‘F’ or ‘C’ designation THOUGH the APP (of course) supports both units. Just doesn’t tell you which one you are using.
To be fair most people would work it out quickly that they have the wrong setting.
You can always rely on an American jock to show you how crazy folks can be. SMILE.
