First Live Snake Of 2024.

Yes, a garter snake as is common in New Hampshire. First live one I have seen in 2024. Yes, a tad late compared to other years BUT I really don’t go out looking for them — plus I have been ambling different routes this year.

I have seen at least two dead ones — both much shorter than this one.

I don’t like snakes. So, seen this didn’t thrill me.

I would be thrilled if this was the LAST snake I see for the year. I really don’t like snakes. That what happens when you grow up in a country where snake bites are FATAL.

“Palmer’s Cocoa Butter” Lip Balm — Outstandingly Good. Even Better Than “Burt’s Bees”.

I have very dry skin and dry lips. I have to use lip balm multiple times a day. Over the decades I used all the well known brands. Recently I decided that I will standardize on “Burt’s Bees” since they HAD TO BE GOOD. No question their lip balm is good. But “Palmer’s”, I find, is even better!

I am familiar with Palmer’s. I have used many of their cocoa butter products. But, I had no idea they did a lip balm.

A few weeks ago I, ATYPICALLY, was walking around “Marshall’s“. I was just browsing. Happened to see this lip balm on clearance — dirt cheap. Decided to get it. Nothing to lose. WOW.

I have been blown away. I have been using it, exclusively. All the Burt tubes (& I keep a few handy at all times) go untouched. BIG TUBE. So, I still have some left. But, I plan to buy a ton.

Just wanted to share this with you. OK?

Dragonflies Kill & EAT Butterflies!

Wow. Wow. Wow. I happened to see one, today, with what was, unmistakably, what was left of a butterfly in its mouth. I was taken aback. Had never occurred to me that dragonflies would, could, eat butterflies. I tried to take a picture, but it was too fast. Obviously very protective of its catch.

I had to look it up. BINGO. Wow. I was shocked. Had no idea.

Yes, I understand that it is all part of nature. But, but, but …

I used to think they were so pretty and cute. Not sure I can think of them like that anymore. I kind of like my butterflies. Nature is CRUEL.

It was surprisingly good. Well worth watching IF you like inspirational biopics. It sure is inspirational and gratifying. Yes, it is a tad syrupy in places and I am sure there was some poetic licenses taken. But, I am sure the overall story is mainly true.

I have a son, one year younger. He, luckily, is not visually-impaired. He too has big dreams and he has to an extent already done well. So, in a sense this story was close to home. Plus, as some of you know, given the issues I have had most of my life with my eyes, anything and everything to do with eyes is important to I.

I recommend this. If you are of a sentimental bent you will love it. SMILE.

Volvo XC60 (2022 ): Just Installed Software v. 3.1.9 (Over The Air). Hasn’t Killed The Car — Yet.

It has been a long time since I was able to get an ‘OTA’ (Over the Air) update for my Volvo XC60 because it was B5. I have been taking it, regularly, to a dealer to have the updates installed. This, alas, has also not always been successful. Last year, when they were trying to install v. 2.7 they totally KILLED my car (i.e., it was not operational, & they had to give me a brand new LOANER for a week!)

So, I had some trepidation about installing this — OTA. But, I took a chance. I have yet to drive it, BUT it started. So, that is a start — & I got no error messages.

Since I have not driven it, yet, I can’t tell you what the improvements to the infotainment system might be. I am curious. I know it is not even worth hoping that we might get a compass.

‘Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum’, ‘Warner’ [N.H.] — Annual Pow Wow This Coming Weekend.

I have been to the museum (& grounds) multiple times BUT never to their annual Pow Wow. I hope to rectify that this year.

The Indian Museum is first class. I was so impressed on my first visit. Yes, I will confess I haven’t visited in a few years — but then again, we also had COVID.

I have gone and ambled the beautiful, bucolic grounds — which you can do without visiting the museum — a number of times. I find it extremely peaceful and rejuvenating.

I am hoping I can make it to the Pow Wow this weekend.

This year, as I did last year, I am HOPING to attend a few Pow Wows — this would be the first.

I do NOT, however, intend to o to the ‘Passamaquoddy‘ one, in ‘Pleasant Point‘. The Passamaquoddy, to my distress, have disappointed me. That is a shame. I am in touch with a COUPLE of them, BUT I have no interest, right now, to interact with the tribe. SMILE.

So, I am hoping to meet a new set of Indians at this Pow Wow.
